CARLTON-BRUNSWICK maintained its perfect record and opened a one-game buffer at the top of the Women’s Premier Cricket seconds ladder with a 53-run win over Ringwood on Sunday.
The Strikers have started the season in top form, accounting for Brighton District, Coburg and Ringwood.
The Rams were also unbeaten heading into the Round 3 contest at A.G Gillon Oval.
Alex Rogers compiled 85 from 101 balls and Ella Baulch added 55 after Carlton-Brunswick captain Adelaide Campion won the toss and batted.
The partnership between Rogers and Baulch powered the home side to an imposing 7-235 from its 45 overs.
Skipper Madeleine Wright (31) and Gabby Basketter (30) provided a strong foundation for Ringwood, putting on a 71-run opening stand.
Tamara Mason held the Rams’ innings together in the middle order with a knock of 36, while 46 extras from the Strikers — including 34 wides — kept Ringwood in the contest.
Mason loomed as the key wicket and when she was bowled by Laura Crofts (3-28), the visitors lost 5-11 to be all out for 182.
Katia Jomini also played an important role with the ball for the victors, snaring 2-18.
Carlton-Brunswick next hosts Melton in Round 4 on Sunday.
