Colin Lesley Lovitt QC

Colin was a long time supporter of both the Carlton Football Club and the Carlton Cricket Club. He was regularly seen at games during the late 1960’s and 1970’s. Known as “the Barrister”, he loved to regale anyone and everyone with stories from the Bar or some of his adventures with the Gypsy Jokers, the motor cycle gang from Western Australia. In 1980, then Carlton Cricket Club President, Howard Houston persuaded Colin to join the Committee to oversee any legal matters that arose and to become a cricket club representative on the Carlton Cricket and Football Social Club.

Colin was a prominent player in negotiations over the Licensing agreement at Princes Park with then football club President John Elliot. During his time on the Committee Colin also became the Chairperson of the Match Committee which had selection of teams as one of its responsibilities. In 1997 Colin became President of the Cricket Club, a position he held until 2005. During his Presidency international players, Abdul Qadir and Carl Hooper, represented Carlton.

Colin continued to maintain a great interest in the Cricket Club after retiring from the Committee and continued to provide wise counsel. Our thoughts are with his wife Margaret and sons Marcus and Zane and their families.

Vale the Barrister.
